Master Chuck:

Millennials get a bad wrap – in many ways completely deserved – but they were the first generation to accept, even embrace, same sex marriage and I credit their “fuck ‘em if they can’t take a joke” outlook and their unwillingness to march to society’s drum. As a generation, they are far more open minded and accepting than the generations that preceded them. They are the generation that bucks society.

Society defines normal and acceptable and it often evolves at glacial speed. I vividly remember the first time I saw two men kissing and I’ll admit to being shocked. (OMG! That’s SO Midwest! :o) Years later I found both amusement and empathy at the mainstream reaction to the kissing scenes in Brokeback Mountain. But that “in your face” approach is often the first step in the general public’s (i.e. society’s) acceptance process. They may howl at being forced to watch two men kiss but they howl less the next time they see it. Eventually, it’s no big deal.

Power exchange relationships are similar to same sex marriage.

It wasn’t that long ago that a priest would have chipped his tooth on the rim of the chalice if someone suggested the day would come where two men would legally be allowed to marry. Little by little, power exchange relationships have come out of the closet in select parts of the country and Sirs and subs who are secure in themselves, their partners and their circle of friends are revealing that they are in M/s relationships, subs refer to their “Sir” in FaceBook posts and their friends are completely supportive.

How is this possible? The “select” parts of the country referred to above are places like West Hollywood, San Francisco, New York, etc. And all these places have one common thread: security in numbers for gays, pride and ownership of diversity and the willingness to tell the world, “fuck ‘em if they can’t take a joke”.

The world is changing and changing faster than most of us realize.

I look forward to the day when power exchange relationships are far more common than they are now, partly because natural Sirs and subs won’t have to hide for fear of being thought a pervert and finding a partner will be only as awkward as dating.

Social media will help get us there. Those of you with FaceBook accounts, do a search on ‘master slave’ or ‘power exchange relationships’ and see what’s already out there. Slowly we are loosing our fear of being judged and finding just how liberating it is to be free to be what we were born to be!
